CA has been paying close attention to energy issues since the 1970s. Apart from opposing nuclear energy, which may bring irreversible impact to the environment, we also promote energy conservation practices and the development of renewable energy (RE) to the public. In early 2000s, CA urged the government to formulate comprehensive energy policies and solutions on energy saving, development of RE, materializingthe segregation of the generation sector from the network sector, plus a long-term energy consumption planning of Hong Kong.
CA has established the Energy Committee in 2009. Apart from monitoring the work of government on energy-related issues and offering professional advises, the Committee also aims at raising energy conservation awareness through community projects, emphasizing energy saving and carbon emission reduction.
