Sometimes it may seem difficult to find a truly relaxing and vibrant oasis in the midst of a city. However, if you explore attentively, you will discover that urban green spaces are right beside us.
Let’s walk into the “Blue River, Green Shade” in the city, and discover treasures in these oases. As long as you open your heart to explore, the secrets of nature are just around the corner.
This series of “See Green. Go Green Little Trip” is organised by the Greening, Landscape and Tree Management Section, Development Bureau, designed and implemented by the Conservancy Association. We would guide you to Jordan Valley Channel Garden and Cattle Depot Art Park, to learn more about “Right Plant, Right Place, People-Centred” greening principle and tree care, and the benefits of “Urban Forestry”.

Theme 1: “Venture into the blue green of Jordan Valley Channel Garden”
The Jordan Valley nullah, built in 1958, mainly conveys the rainwater collected from the catchment areas in the vicinity of Fei Ngo Shan and Ngau Tau Kok for eventual discharge into the Victoria Harbour. In 2022, the Drainage Services Department completed the Jordan Valley nullah revitalisation works. The Jordan Valley channel incorporates various design elements of a "Rivers in the City" including enhancement of ecological diversity, greening the existing concrete channel so that it can blend in with the community, increasing public open space and promoting a water-friendly culture through connectivity with the bank of the channel1. These efforts have transformed the once plain nullah into a green space that combines ecology and leisure.
In this journey, we will guide you into the "Blue River, Green Shade" within the city, discover and admire the plants and organisms along the river, closely observe the diverse microhabitats of the channel and experience the benefits of blue-green infrastructure.

| Immerse in the red and green of the Cattle Depot |
Theme 2: “Immerse in the red and green of the Cattle Depot”
You may have heard of the Cattle Depot Artist Village, but did you know that there is also a Cattle Depot Art Park next to it? The Cattle Depot was originally the Ma Tau Kok Animal Quarantine Depot built in 1908, and was used as a slaughterhouse and quarantine base for cattle until 1999. The front portion of the Cattle Depot was transformed into the Cattle Depot Artist Village in 2001, while the rear portion was revitalised and developed into a park, which was opened in 2019, covering an area of approximately 6,000 square meters2.
The most distinctive feature of the Cattle Depot Art Park lies in the seamless integration of historical red bricks and lush greenery. As you step into the park, you cannot help but marvel at the unique landscape where culture and nature converge. We sincerely invite you to immerse yourself in this environment filled with historical and cultural ambience, slow down and feel the passage of time, and discover the vitality of nature.
