Village Cleaning and Recycling Day

Long Valley, the most continuous freshwater agricultural wetland, supportsa varietyofwildlife and important bird species. In addition, Long Valley is surrounded by local villages. The villages had kept their traditional community culture and valuable historical buildings. Nowadays, some of the villagers were still living on traditional farming around the area.

 

In cooperated with Village Committee of Kwu Tung and Tsung Pak Long and supported by North District Councilor Mr. Hau Kam-lam, “Village Cleaning and Recycling Day” was organized. Lots of villagers in Long Valley participated in the activities. Through the activity, CAhopedto facilitate cooperation of Hong Kong residentsand local villagers in Long Valley to build a good living environment in the community and spread themessage of waste reduction as well as sustainable development.

 

Our landfill sites wouldbe fully occupied in 5-6 years’ timetherefore waste reductionwasan urgent issue. It would be difficult to explore further rural area for constructing new landfill site, nevertheless, our green rural area should not be further developedinto a waste dump. Starting from Long Valley, CAhopedto enhance public hygiene and resource recycling works.

 

The activity was fully supported by many organizations including Caritas Hong Kong, St. James’ Settlement, The Mental Health Association (Irene House), Jockey Club Integrated Children and Youth Services Centre, ELCHK North District Integrated Youth Service Centre, CLP Volunteer Team and The HK Electric Volunteers Team. Nevertheless, we would like to thank all participated public volunteers to help make Long Valley a more beautiful place.
