Many mature trees in Leung King Estate were “decapitated” in 2006.
The Conservancy Association received a complaint from residents from Leung King Estate, Tuen Mun about mature trees being “topped” with the estate area. Leung King Estate was a public estate, which became a private estate under the Tenants Purchase Scheme. We discovered lots of trees were topped as we did a site visit there; for example, near the car park, about 20 mature banyan trees were “decapitated.”
A property manager told us that the reason for “pruning” the trees was the potential risk of falling branches. They worried that the branches would hurt passersby. She said that the owners’ corporation also supported the decision. The Conservancy Association expressed our deep regret for this incident and urged all property management companies and organizations to hire professional aborists, whom could provide better and proper judgment to tree management.
