Wall Trees in Forbes Street
The Government gave the green light for the work of Mass Transit Railway West Island Line in June 2005. Mature wall trees were present above two of the proposed stations: Forbes Street at Kennedy Town Station and King George V Memorial Park at Sai Ying Pun Station.
CA initiated a flash mob campaign on 10th July 2005, urging MTR to preserve the wall trees through carefully designing the routes. Impacts on the trees should also be minimized during construction. MTR later decided to move the Kennedy Town Station under the former Kennedy Town Swimming Pool to conserve the Forbes Street wall trees.
