Prologue The New JourneyProject Introduction Objectives and MissionsEvent Highlights
I am one of the new items neglected in the corners of a room. I know I am capable enough, but no one discover my greatness. Bro do you know that feel?
In a developed city like Hong Kong, many treasures like me, are hidden in the corner of most of the apartments. Rather than cramming your corners with new items, why not give us an opportunity to start anew?
Here, I start my journey with my friends, for finding our new masters!
In the Departure Zone at Jockey Club - The Conservancy Association Urban Forestry Green Hub, we took photos for making our new identity card. We officially left the place where did not need us anymore, and departed to our new home!
Here, we met people who really appreciate us, need us, and have promised to cherish us.
We are very happy to meet them!
As discussions around MSW charging sparked fervor among citizens, there was a surge in the disposal of new and unused items at refuse collection points and recycling centers. To encourage everyone to cherish belongings and reduce the burden on the Earth, The Conservancy Association (CA), with the support of The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust, organized the first " Our Hidden Treasure Corner: Thanksgiving Day" swap event from 3rd to 5th February, 2024, at Jockey Club - The Conservancy Association Urban Forestry Green Hub. CA recruited residents of the community to become stallholders of the event. The stallholders brought their available unused items and set up swap booths at the Green Hub, allowing participants to bring useful items home.
Stallholders are also fulfilled when giving their treasures to suitable people.
Led by CA staff, there were sharing sessions with stallholders everyday during the event. The stallholders shared their feelings about the event and reflected on cherishing items and reducing waste. The stallholders are thrilled to share their brilliant techniques for decluttering and their fresh ideas on reducing materialistic desires, exploring different aspects of simplicity and embracing a slower-paced lifestyle. |
The bartering event aims to engage the public in connecting with other individuals in the community and participating in the redistribution of Earth’s resources.
In addition to exchanging their unused items, participants also have the option to obtain needed items by saying the " Use Less, Waste Less" phrases offered by the organizers.
Participants have the opportunity to take on the role of ‘stallholders’, connecting unused items with new owners, granting old possessions a second chance, and simultaneously decluttering their homes to create more living space in an eco-conscious manner.
Promoting a sustainable approach to shopping.
