338,000 Beneficiaries
CA’s food sharing scheme, the Food Resources Recycling Centre (FRRC), was established in July 2013 and sponsored by the Environment and Conservation Fund for the next 10 years. Its operation is then supported by DBS Hong Kong since August 2023. The aim of the project is to: 1) Reduce food waste 2) Help those in need 3) Promote “Food Wise” and sustainable development by recycling and redistributing surplus food in the community.
Routine collection at local wet markets, examination and redistribution of retrieved food are being carried out by our staff and volunteers 6 days per week. More than 20 food stalls, with the “Food Sharing Scheme Partner” signage, have been contributing on a regular basis. FRRC is also grateful to have the support from AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited and other donors/organizations in the community. More than 577 tonnes of surplus food had been recovered as of February 2024 while benefited more than 338,000 people.
