Sunday December 17th 2017; the coldest day in December thus far
Even we put on layers of clothing we were still trembling with cold. All staff and helpers had gathered at Po Tin estate in the morning to prepare for the carnival, a kick-off event of GDEs Ph. XI. The theme “source reduction of waste” will once again be highlighted in the coming phase by encouraging residents to practice green living and clean recycling in daily life. 4 booth games along with an up-cycling workshop for residents to design their own tote bag and hook rack made from abandoned wooden pallets were arranged for the occasion.
During the kick-off ceremony, scheduled activities for GDEs were introduced to the residents along with the appointment of Estate Management Advisory Committee (EMAC) members as Green Ambassadors to motivate local residents to take action in waste reduction and establish a greener community. A story-telling session was also included into the carnival this year! The “Green Little Pigs” story, adapted from the classic “The Three Little Pigs”, was illustrated by GDEs mascot, “Green Junior”, to convey green messages to residents. The maiden show had an overwhelming response and we hope the importance of source reduction of waste can be more deeply planted in the residents’ mind, so that they will take action with us. We will keep the green carnivals running in 10 remaining participating estates in early 2018 and look forward to see you soon!
