Lunar New Year Food Recovery Program Recap
This year, FRRC had a television debut on OpenTV to share a series of food-wise tips during the Lunar New Year. Not only can we cut down the gifting waste, but also utilizing the festive food items and turn it into upgraded dessert that everyone can enjoy. A ‘Green Lunar New Year’ themed booth was also held in Panda Place at Tsuen Wan prior to the New Year period, showing general public how to be more eco-conscious when celebrating the new year in different aspects. We truly believe it is best to cut down waste from the source than to “handle” the leftovers at the end. Unfortunately, due to latest the Coronavirus outbreak, the Lunar New Year Food Recovery Program had to be suspended.
Coronavirus outbreak arrangement
Due to the outbreak of the Novel Corona Virus, FRRC was temporarily closed to ensure the safety of our staffs, volunteers and visitors, and to reduce the risk of community/ cross-infection. As we noticed the prices of food and daily necessities were sharply rise, we decided to resume part of our services in mid-February under feasible safety measurements, hoping to ease the daily needs of the community.
Huge thanks to our long-term partners, Feeding Hong Kong and Aeon Stores Hong Kong. With their generous donation and helpful arrangement, we are able to put together goodie bags with packaged food items and cleaning supplies that we could share with our members. We reused our collected eco-bags from last CNY to pre-pack and notified our members to visit in batches, so as to reduce contact and large crowd. After the distribution, we also clean thoroughly to maintain a clean and hygienic environment.
Many members were understandably aware that FRRC’s service could not be provided as usual. We hope FRRC can manage all we can under these special circumstances to share food and supplies with our members and we thank you for the understanding and continuous support.
