The Novel Coronavirus has widely spread across the globe and it is changing how we live our daily lives. As we are facing severe situation, it is important that we stay united to win the battle against the disease. We should pay extra attention to personal hygiene, wash your hands frequently and properly, and wear face mask(s) in public. To minimize the risk of disease spreading in the community, the government is strongly advising members of the public to stay at home and avoid social gatherings as much as possible. Then, you may ask, what I can do at home except housecleaning, having a rest or exercise? – Cleaning out your closet!
The Conservancy Association (CA) encourages the general public to recycle their used clothes for reuse purpose only if one has explored all its options, including ill-fitting or unable to give away the used clothes to relatives or friends. For more details, please visit CA webpage (click here) or Home Affairs Department website (click here). To protect yourself and others against the disease, please be aware of the following points for attention.
Points for attention | Importance |
1. Wash your hands often before/after cleaning out your closet
• Before: Washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer could avoid contamination of clothing
• After: Washing hands with soap or hand sanitizer could wash away the dust from your hands
2. Make sure that your used clothes stay clean and dry
Although the collected clothes will be sterilized locally prior to shipping, to prevent the bacteria from breeding, the most vital part is to make sure the items to be donated is CLEAN
3. Pack and tighten up used clothes with plastic bag(s)
Clothing can easily be affected by moisture, which in turn encourages mould growth, especially if used clothes fall out from bag inside the collection bank
4. Wear face mask(s) in public to prevent infection |
Invisible cases of coronavirus may already exist in the community. Therefore, please remember to wear face mask(s) outdoor even though the location of used clothes collection bank is near to where you live
All in all, it is not difficult to practice the above points in daily life. Knowing that the donated items could be reused in a proper way should encourage the public to nurture the habit of clean recycling, while the donated outfits will be also able to help others. In summary, to protect yourself and others, we should listen to advice of experts and tie in with the strategies to fight the disease. CA will continue to act together to overcome this public health crisis along with the efforts from our supporters!
